This may be a grip for a strobe. The wrist strap would be removed and the grip fit to a flat piece that also attached to the camera with a 1/4-20 thumb screw and lock nut. The strobe would mount to the top. Another use may have been for a monopod where the camera mounted to the top of the grip and when the wrist strap was removed the monopod would attach to the grip and the grip then steadied the monopod and camera. In any case the use of this style grip is not very limited as some. They can be quite useful. The more creative you are with how to mount it the more uses you will find for it. Nice useful find.
