Lemon juice works more effectively in my experience, as it doesn't need you do hold the flame so close (hold the paper besides the flame).
I was going to say lemon juice too, or simple syrup.very cool though.
Quite nice actually. The one in the middle worked.Having done both methods(lemon juice and milk) when I was younger I found that it just takes some practice to get the paper at just the right distance from the flame to let the heat work and the flame not destroy the paper.
Heat it with a light bulb instead of an open flame.
Thinner paper also helps, card stock is too thick, it blocks the heat from activating the ink until the paper gets shoot that it combusts.
I've got some UV ink, but haven't tested it out yet.
