Congratulations on your new find. I'm surprised that it doesn't have margin settings. There may be a way to lighten the carriage by adjusting the tension on the assisting springs, I don't know.
Congratulations on the wonderful Champion! This is my every day typewriter, and duly so. Here is a helpful hint: there ARE margin settings. Just fold back the paper table, and voila! You will find the margins and, if you are lucky, those little metal tabs for manual tab setting. With one in that condition, they should definitely be in there. The keys are definitely among the hardest to depress of my typewriters. As you said, even on the lowest setting they are tough. Even still, it is quiet as anything and a quality typewriter.Great find!
Looks like a perfect find for Typewriter Day!
